Weird Stuff That Happens'  Day!
by, Crazy FullMoon Eagle

Dateline: 13 February 2002 - Between 6 and 6:30 p.m.

Location: Middle of nowhere between Sedalia, Missouri and Jefferson City, Missouri.

Side Effects: The State Capitol and college area, where lots of train commuters going home to the Saint Louis area, are stranded waiting for the train to arrive, as well as those returning home from working in Kansas City. First-timers on their way to St. Louis to catch a flight to Jamaica, as well as mothers with their children and infants were all jarred out of their seats;  some were reading, some watching the scenery and some were sleeping.

I just grabbed the camera out of the bag and was able to get off the train
and take a few snaps. The settings were low due to tree damage in K.C. shooting just hours before.
Quality is not that good because of the darkness and low setting.

Who Would Have Thought?:
On a return train from Kansas City, Missouri. An everyday event along the route from St. Louis to Kansas City, Missouri.

The AMTRAK train pulled out of the Union Station area and got about 4 miles into the rail yard and had to stop for roughly 18 minutes to wait for a freight train to pass. Once under way things sailed for about 40 minutes before our second shut down to wait for two freight trains; one long empty coal train and a good length freight train.

Okay, we are all saying that should be enough, but not even half way into the trip, in rural country, just 10 - 15 minutes out of Sedalia, East Bound a Red Stepside pickup truck was coming South on a dirt road, less than a 1/4 mile from a blacktop he had just turned off of.

His comment was that he did not see the train. And that he was only doing 20 mph.

His action was running his truck into the side of one of the cars behind the engine.
I was told by the engineer that he did not see the truck. He heard a crash and looked into his rear view mirror where he said he only saw a dustpile behind him.

The driving over of the front end of the truck sounded to me like it was splintering a  huge tree trunk, as there are millions of them on the ground from the ice storm two weeks ago. Look for those pictures by clicking on Kansas City Storm.
